(Inter)National DeLurking Week!

I knew there was something special about today when I woke up. At first, I thought it was the day the ice age ended -- then I remembered. It is DeLurking Week! Although I can't find any specific references to it this year, I recall it being the second week in January.

So all this week, lurkers are invited to come out from behind the curtain. According to Statcounter there probably aren't any actual lurkers (so I've been slack updating lately, at least you got two posts yesterday) -- but regular readers can steal the image (since I pinched it myself) and we can have a great big lurker teaparty. Don't be shy, hug a lurker.

And I've probably mentioned this before, but I used to think a lurker was a breed of dog. Was probably confusing it with a lurcher.

  1. For the most part, I don't do lurking. I can hang around for a couple of posts without saying anything, then sooner or later something will grab my attention enough that I can't keep quiet any longer.

I want to have a great big lurker teaparty! With scones!

Just as an aside, you seem to be in a rather jolly mood today.

  2. I'm lurking.

    Stealthily.

    Kind of creepily.

    Unless this counts as de-lurking...

  3. Hug a lurker - can we change the definition so you have to hug one of those pimples that just kind of hangs out under the skin and never *really* shows its ugly face?

  4. ewww... ok Inductive officially grossed me out :)

I'm with Amanda - if I'm reading a blog, the laws of nature say there's no way I can keep my mouth shut for longer than 1 post. Sometimes even 1 paragraph :P :)

  5. Haha, funnily enough, one of the blogs I actually lurked on the longest was Dune's, of all people. That went on for months... woops. Perhaps I was intimidated by her?

  6. Dayum! I missed it. I wanted to find out how many of family members were being horrified by my blog.

  8. Amanda: Tosslepot. I am entirely unintimidating :) (but thank you for saying) and, actually, looking at the other posters on this particular comment... I lurked on Steph's for a while - I could never comment since hers only accepts Blogspot profiles and on M's (who I stopped commenting on because I was always getting in last at number 30... and Steph's is the same only more so).

  9. Amanda: I don't really lurk either, I'm too much in love with my own voice to not comment -- but we later establish you do lurk after all! And yeah I think the chipper mood was from not having to get up for work...

Non-Blondie: Are you a lurker or a first-time visitor? But either way, commenting does sort of count as de-lurking. Consider yourself de-lurked. And of course, welcome :)

    Inductive: That's gross. No.

Dune: Sort of combining this with your later comment, at what point does your urge to comment get squashed when there's other comments? And I'm sure it was through reading a comment of yours on Steph's blog that I first found you...

Steph: You didn't miss it, it started yesterday -- having a blonde moment?

Mez: Where else do you lurk? You don't really count as a lurker here, as I know you're there even when you're quiet -- even if I don't always write anything worth commenting on ;)

  10. To everyone:

I apologize. I've been home on break the past couple of weeks... my mind is going. :)

  11. Probably once the comments hit the high teens it gets to the point that you've really missed the boat - everything worth saying has already been said already. Both M and Steph (in particular) fall way above that mark. Although I love both their blogs I don't read them anymore, so my earlier statement does hold true - if I'm a regular reader, I'll definitely comment

  12. We like to believe there are lots of lurkers out there, but in reality, we probably have the same amount of readers as commenters.

  13. Yes but, Kenneth, we all have stats counters that tell us otherwise.... but maybe you don't.

  14. Okay, I'm delurking. I got here via Steph's blog and once every fortnight I'll go through all my blogger favourite lists and catch up - 142 at last count, so lucky that I like to read as well. I am Australian (technically British too, through having been born in Yemen) and I write quite a few blogs. This year's positive one is http://www.blognow.com.au/kittycat/

I will write comments but only when I feel I have something to contribute and/or I am sloshed.

  15. Not sure if prvious comment made it or not. I don't really lurk; I read and comment if I absolutely can't shut up any more.

I blog myself but I do so a lot under different identities to confuse people and keep private. None of my blogs are closed and the only criteria for reading is that I have to NOT know you!

    I got here via Steph.

  16. Dr Kenneth: I didn't know you were lurking here...

Dune: My stat counter sort of appears to supports Dr K's theory for my blog.

Rexy: Thanks for delurking -- anything you have to offer is always welcome :)
